Since DoDMERB site's status is now less descriptive, is there any reading between the lines of a change in the Admissions Status Date?

Yesterday, son's status was changed. He's been 3Q'd for months and got his MOC nom in Dec (competitive; MOC does not use principle method).

We're trying to keep him level-headed, but of course he wants to assume it means an offer.

Are there any more interim Admission steps or any reason other than final decision that the status date would change?

At this relatively early stage, is it plausible that a rejection would be the status change rather than an offer?

Just looking for any guidance in keeping him grounded for the next few days while waiting on the mail. And we thought he was anxious for the mail before yesterday! :-)

Seeing the same thing on son's account today. Don't want to speculate, but can't help wondering. I believe the board meets on Thursday so it makes sense that a decision may have been made yesterday. Exciting and nerve wracking!

as hard as it is, it would be a mistake to make any assumptions.

If the offer comes, it will come in a beautiful blue binder.

Until then, and as hard and nerve wracking as it can be, keep your feet on the ground. And while there, make sure there is a plan B.

The answer will come soon enough.
Hopefully all the news is good news!
(and not that I want to deflate anyone's hopes, do have a plan in case the news is otherwise.... for you and your candidate)

I guess it's the whole 'rolling admissions' process that is most confusing.

Is it even possible at this early stage for a 3 Q'd, Nominated candidate to be rejected?

It would seem that rejections could not go out until the class is filled or unless a particular candidate sits so low on the National Pool WCS ranking that there is no possible way the appointments would ever go that deep. The second scenario obviously depends on recent trending of acceptance per offer ratios, which may or may not be accurate for the year in question.

It would be interesting to know the range of notification dates for the 474 incredibly talented young men and women from last year's candidate pool who were unfortunately not appointed.

As I recall from last year, rejection letters (the thin letters) started coming in March and trickled on into April. As the class filled, the Admissions Office got a sense of how many candidates they needed to keep in the process and those lower on their list were notified by a letter. Others were put on an offical waiting list (an official rejection with the caveat to stand by in case more than expected offers of appointment were turned down at the deadline). But none on the waiting list were given an appointment to my knowledge. We wait together.

So even though his status updated yesterday (i.e early in the overall scheme of admissions), it still could be anything from elation, to dejection, to dejected waiting with a tiny glimmer of hope...?

That's a bit of a bummer; I think he had convinced himself that this early of a decision could basically be good news only.

Like all the rational folks on this board have consistently stated - just keep waiting patiently with fingers crossed..

One way or the other, since a decision has apparently been made, I hope for his sake that he gets something in the mail soon rather than having to wait until March / April. It would really drive him nuts knowing a decision had been made but not being informed for weeks!

I believe it's premature to expect appointments to USNA in January or even February. My mid received a thin letter informing her of her appointment in early February shortly after she was named principal nominee of our US senator.

I dont know how relevant the DoDmerb is to your application status. I have a appointment to USNA which I just received last week, but my dodmerb says my status hasn't changed since Sept. 18.

The DODMERB web site shows your Application Status, Application Status Change Date, as well as your Medical Status. Many candidates have found out their application status (In Progress, LOA Offered, Appointment Offered, etc) from there, well before any notice from the Academy arrives. Only the Academy can change your Application Status.

Recently, they have removed the "Application Status" line from the information, leaving the "Application Status Change Date" which can leave some candidates confused when the date changes without knowing why.

Your DODMERB Medical Status hasn't changed since Sept 18, as that was the last time that your medical records were reviewed. But if you check the other lines, I'm sure you'll see a much later date, probably the date your appointment was actually decided.
