Interracial Dating at Southern Schools

well, if you are not racist, and do not harbor racist sentiment then i am not talking to you, SMARTNESS.. What bothered me was the comment made by the troll about brown v. board of education.

I would not have dated a white girl if I were racist of white people.

But i'm also not gonna let racial slurs slip by as if i never heard/saw them.
i'm finished arguing with you, i've got a date in an hour. buh-bye.

It's satire, you dumb ****.

Im going to have to second the comment on avoiding southern schools all-together, at least the ones in the middle of the country, its really a risky situation. There are some schools where people are pretty cool about it, alabama was actually a surprise cool school, but for the most part lots of words get said. Basically, any school in the states of Louisiana, mississippi, southern missouri, arkansas, some parts of georgia and many parts of rural kentucky... p.s. louisiana and mississippi are big ones

That was one of my biggest concerns when I was checking out UVA. I read about the problem with segregation, and I was very concerned with that problem. Then I started looking more into UVA, and I realized that it has an excellent repuation. I would love to attend that school. Racism is also everywhere, and I've dealt with alot of racism before. I've dealt with people that don't like me because I'm not the stereotypical "black girl". Meaning that I don't act ghetto because it's not who I'am as a person. Yet, I got teased and some very rude remarks from other african-americans because they claimed I act too white. Why? because I'am intelligent and I speak properly when I talk to others. I feel that as blacks we tend to get racism from our own kind than from any other race. I also feel that as blacks we tend to have these soul searching quests to see if our actions our to white enough or if we're not black enough. Then we tend to hate towards each other and criticize about everything instead of sticking together. My point is as an african-american I believe we get more racism from our own race, and if you want to date outside of your race then just do it. Don't be ashamed of the person you're dating.

I think the key word is "get." As a minority it's easier to tell someone that they're "acting too white" than it is for a white person to say something racist to your face. But just because it's not in your face that doesn't mean that others don't have racist beliefs.

Yeah rule out entire states because of some rural areas in those states with some ignorant racists... that is brilliant.

i noted that some states you should only rule out certain parts... i.e. southern mizzou, rural kentucky, some of georgia.... and if i didnt put a certain areas or the word "some" next to a state then yes i meant the WHOLE state

i'm not going to say that racism is not present in the south, but i do want to point out that such sweeping generalizations about whole states are not only inaccurate but also offensive.

How about racism not just African Americans, but minorities like asians too? How prevalent is that?

The south has openly racist people
The west has openly gay people
and the northeast just has asshols living there.

It kinda all evens out doesn't it.

I think you should visit schools you are looking at - overnight if possible - to get a feel for their culture. Just be careful when making conclusions. For example, confederate flags always mean southern people but DON'T always mean racists.

"i'm not going to say that racism is not present in the south, but i do want to point out that such sweeping generalizations about whole states are not only inaccurate but also offensive."

well since im making such a sweeping generalization, im assuming that the majority of people in those states are racists and i doubt racist people really take offense to being called racist.... so its really not all that offensive

^lmao lmao hahahhaa nice hahaha

exactly, you are the only ignorant one for saying most white people are racist in the south. It's everywhere, and obviously you have some sort of bias towards southern whites.

Another good point. I have a picture of Robert E Lee and his generals in my room, it doesn't make me racist.

"It kinda all evens out doesn't it."

LOL, actually, I'm thinking the West wins there...by a lot.

Idiotic topics like this belong in HS Life. Can some admin please move it there?

myheartisinohio, have you ever actually been to Mississippi? I grew up there, am white, and yes I'm offended by your comments that everyone in Mississippi is racist. Are there some ignorant people in Mississippi? Sure. There are ignorant people everywhere. Are there well educated people there who don't judge others? Yes, they too can be found everywhere. Judging an entire state by what you see in movies isn't really the way to go. I attended a 70% black high school in Mississippi and guess what? We all got along just fine.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's idiotic.

You, of all people here, have acted the most foolish and inconsiderate. We can do without the juvenile attitude and racial stereotypes. If you don't like the topic don't post, it doesn't even take half a brain to understand that concept.

And "GTFO" what is this supposed to mean? I assume it's an acronym for "Get the **** out"; as if you owned the county. How old are you, really?

Last, you would be a fool to assume I would be in a black neighborhood without ample protection.

No Asian would ask that question. We have better things to do than bicker about race.

And if these aren't racist you have no idea what racism means.
