Does anyone know if you get, or can request an interview prior to the application/admission process. My thinking is if an applicant shows well he or she might have a leg up from the very start. On the other hand why would a college interview someone who may not fit their admit profile. What comes first interview or acceptance? In the Ivies how could they possibly accommodate all the interviews that would certainly be asked for before the admission process has started.

It depends on the school (although I don't know of any that have the interview after acceptance). Some schools allow juniors to interview, which is clearly before application, and some ask you to request an interview after you've applied.

Most Ivies don't allow interviews at all.

Just a test post.

I can only speak to Yale which does some on-campus interviews before applications are due. They do not screen who they will interview. You can sign up for an on-campus interview and if there's room, you'll get one. Yale does not have adequate staff to interview everyone who requests an on-campus interview, but they do try to offer everyone an alumni interview. Alumni interviews are available only after students submit their applications. Because there aren't alumni interviewers in all areas of all states and because some areas do not have sufficient alumni interviewers to conduct all the requested interviews, not everyone who requests an alumni interview gets one. Yale understands this and doesn't hold not having an interview against you. There is also no screening for alumni interviews; getting one doesn't mean that you're more likely to get in.
