Interview & A Nom

DS had his first interview yesterday with the Senators staffers. I drove him in as it was an hour and fifteen minute drive.

He went into the office while I found myself a STRATEGIC place in the outdoors to park my butt and hit on a very nice cigar. Post interview my son said he was surprised to see so many parents in the office with their kids. One lady asked my son where his parents were. My son said "someplace outside or sleeping in the car." he said she looked surprised.

Any who! One day after (today) the interview my son opened his email and was shocked to see that he was !!!NOMINATED!!! The email also said there were over 100 candidates that come through the interview process.

They told him during the interview that they would try and notify the candidates who got the nom by Wednesday and the rest by Thursday. Since the MOC's spread the opportunity he now does not have to interview with the other Senator of Congressman.

That is it, it's all up to the admissions board now.

I had plenty of time to finish my cigar it was excellent!

3unitsIlove, does your DS have an LOA?

Hoorah! What great news 3Units!! That was fast. Congrats - one more step, right?

Our DS drove himself to the Congressional district office for his interview. He said that had two difference conference rooms in use - one for USAFA and the other for USNA (I gues they did USMA on a different day). I don’t know long it will be until he hears anything. He interviews with the Senator’s Committee in two weeks.

WTDoor01, no LOA; however, he has been active with the D1 coach for the past year. Got word last night that things could move very fast, very soon. The grades, ACT, community and school involvement, leadership and well you get the picture are all favorable for what they are looking for. I’ll keep you up to speed.

Glido, It sounds like your MOC’s do it different. If onw of our Senators give the nom the other gets the word and the interview is crossed off. Our DS called our Congressman to let him know and to offer his slot to another. They said it was a very nice thing to do but asked that he come in and interview anyway. He said he would feel guilty if they alos give him a nom.

3unitsIlove, if your DS does not have an LOA, your local Representative is doing your son a huge favor by not listening to him and going ahead and considering him for the second slate. By the nature of the beast and pure numbers, it is more unlikely that he is the top one or two candidates on the Senatorial than on the Representative’s. Therefore, if he fails to receive the Senator’s principal nomination he is relegated to the national pool where he has to compete nationally in what can be a much more competitive arena. Whereas, had he been a top candidate of the Representative, he would receive his principal nomination and forego the entire national pool selection process. It is almost never acceptable for a local MOC to not interview a candidate who is one of ten on a Senatorial slate whereas the reciprocal is more likely to be acceptable.

Ahhhhh… That puts some light on it. We are not sure if he got the Principal or not. They only thing we know is he was told the very next day after the interview. That’s where he was surprised. They said it might be a few days before anybody hears. I’m sure once he gets the offical letter it will tell all.

@3unitsi love… what state are you in? I know that in my state … CT … they do not give principal noms.

Yip, just found that out from my son. I guess the MOC’s in CT just send in their choices and allow the Academy to make the final choice. He got his Congressional interview letter in the mail on Sat.
