interview advice needed

I will have an interview with a Scripps alumni in a few weeks and I'm pretty unsure about it. This is the only interview I am doing and I dont know what it will be like or what kinds of things I should say.

Scripps is my first choice school but I believe it is a reach for me. My test scores are good (35 ACT, 1490 SAT) but my unweighted GPA is about 2.99. (I had a bad year 9th grade and took MANY classes at other schools which aren't calculated by school in GPA). How important is the interview for scripps?

Any advice or info about interviewing for Scripps would be helpful. Thanks.

P.S. The "why do you want to attend this school?" question scares me. I know I want to go but it is hard for me to articulate why. help?

During the interview, you pretty much reiterate a lot of what your application tells about you. I had an alumni interview so it was really relaxing and we just talked about ourselves (yes, she talked about her current job and how it was like at Scripps, too). Basic questions that everyone asks on interviews 1. So tell me about yourself. 2. Why Scripps? 3. What are you interested in? 4. Family, extracurriculars etc. It is all pretty straightforward and you shouldn't be too nervous. Be honest. Be yourself and show them why you would be an addition. I had 4 interviews this year, I think Scripps is great and I would have gone, but I applied Early Decision to Pomona and got accepted and I'm ecstatic about it. About the interview, I am pretty sure it won't hurt you, unless you completely seem like a horrible candidate for the school.

If your GPA has an upward trend, meaning bad 9th grade year and excellent senior year then that goes in your favor. Don't worry too much about that, your SAT score and ACT scores are excellent for Scripps.

As for the question, like before, be honest. I stammered a little because it is hard to articulate, but, in the end, I just said that Scripps emphasis on the humanities and women were ideas that interested me, etc. Even now it's hard to articulate. =)

I hope this helps you somewhat. Good luck on your interview Lindsay and best of luck at Scripps! Hopefully you'll be accepted.

Thanks. What you said is pretty relieving. I will just remind myself why I want to got there before I go in for the interview. Congratulations on going to Pomona!

My D had a Scripps interview and the rep asked her why she wanted a woman's college and if she was applying to others. My D decided not to apply as she eventulaly realized she did not want an all female school she really wanted to be at a Claremont College. The rep was telling one parent however that she thought her D would fit in well as she had great reasons for wanting an all girls school. It may be this particular interviewer's question and not asked by all reps but just reflect on it in case.

So my interview is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in a little bakery/cafe. The woman was very warm on the phone; I think I will do fine. Any last minute tips or questions I should consider?

thanks Arizonamom-i do want a women's college and can explain my reasons now

Ask a lot of questions. It makes you look interested. Best of luck!

I feel there is no such thing as a stupid question, as long as you want to know the answer.

Ok, update: I just had the interview. I think it went well, I came off as myself and did not do anything unbelievably stupid. It was nice to actually talk to a person, even though she is not actually in the adcom. It takes away some of the anonymity of the application process.
