Last November I had my interviews with most of the schools I was going to be applying, but I didn't go to a couple schools because I had a campus tour this summer (without an interview). I've emailed the schools, and they say that I can have a Skype interview after I send in the application. I suspect they want to see where I stand within the pool of applicants, so that neither of us wastes our time if I have no chance. Both these schools, interviews are not required, just strongly reccommended. I'm very nervous because I've worked really hard on my application, my grades, SSAT, and ecs (I also have a strong hook),but I'm nervous that I may screw up the Skype interview and not get in because of it. How important is the interview, and the fact that I didn't have it before (procrastination?) Would it ever be the deciding factor for a candidate?
Thank you!

Also, if they think that I’m very high in the pool of candidates, due to my records and application, if the interview doesn’t go well, will they still accept me? I’m a pretty bright and happy person, so I wouldn’t come across as some strange person who they wouldn’t want at their school, but sometimes I can be a little shy and boring.

First of all, they’re not going to review your application prior to your interview, decide they don’t like you, and then cancel your interview. They’re willing to schedule your interview after the application deadline because they’re trying to be nice - they realize that sometimes not everything can get done before the deadline.

Second, it makes no difference whether your interview is the first of October or the first of February - they all get the same consideration.

Finally, yes, your interview is important. While a middle-of-the-road interview might not sway things significantly, the consensus seems to be that a very, very good or very, very bad interview can definitely tip the balance. The schools review your entire file - and the interview is part of it. There are plenty of threads about interviews on this forum - how to act, what to wear, what questions to be prepared for. Take a look at them, and then prepare for this interview just the same as if it were a live, on campus interview. And that includes your clothing - present the best “you” that you can!
