sorry for the rehash of the interview thing.
if i havent been contacted yet, should i just write off that im not getting an interview? probably obvious but i applied rd.
gracias.

No. You could get contacted up until the end of Feb.

thank u very much.

Yeah, I'm in NYC, and I haven't been contacted yet either.

Neither have I.

Which bourough do you go to school in? If you're outside of Manhattan the odds of getting an interview are going to be even smaller than if you're in Manhattan.

i got an email about an interview but im not sure if its good or bad... ive never done one with a college...

It isn't good or bad. It means there are enough interviewers in your area.

DS just go an email from an alum for an interview today (Boston area)

I recently heard that I am going to have an interview. Does anyone know how much of my information from my application my interviewer will know? I wont even ask what questions they'll ask me, 'cause there are already so many threads on that subject.

What do they know? The stuff on Part 1, essentially.

Hey Columbia2002.

I just had a quick question (if you don't mind answering it). Do interviewers personally pick their applicants for an interview (as you've said, by looking at their Part 1s) or is it a completely random match-up?

Thanks!

My interviewer told me he has another interview the same day as me. I have the choice of going either before or after the other candidate. Do you think it would be better for me to go first or second?

Eddieee, it depends on the region. But the Part 1 info is all there is. There are two options:

1) Interviewers go into the database and and pick applicants themselves.

2) Regional chairman assigns applicants to interviewers. The chair asks interviewers how many people they'd like to interview. He should know the alumni in his region and match up people accordingly. If he's lazy, he'll just do it randomly.

I've been in both types of regions. I'd generally select people who are near me (so they don't have to travel far), who put down a major that is science-ish and/or have interests that are similar to mine.

It really doesn't matter. It isn't like you're interviewing for a job and the interviewer is picking between the two of you. The interviewer can like both of you.

If you polled 100 people, 50 will probably say that 1st is better and give you good reasons. But another 50 will probably give you equally good reasons for why 2nd is better. Don't worry about that.
