I've got an interview with a guy at his office next week... I was thinking about going with a collared shirt and dress pants, but it's at a law firm, would a blazer and and a tie be better?

Go in a suit. Cant emphasize that more.

I don't have one heh. Will a blazer and khakis do?

That would be fine, although it would also be fine to just wear khakis and a nice button-down shirt (tucked in and with a belt). Believe me -- I've interviewed high school students in my law firm before.

you can always throw ona crew neck sweater....make sure your shoes aren't gross....

would wearing my collared academic decathlon team shirt be good or would that seem gimicky?

Have any of you guys BEEN interviewed by a law firm? Depending on how reputable it is...plan your clothes accordingly.

Button-down shirt and khakis will workout just fine. No need for a suit just look presentable.

This is not an interview by a law firm, it is a college alumni interview that is taking place in the law firm's office rather than in Starbucks or some other location. So yes, if you are lawyer interviewing for a job with a law firm, by all means wear a suit. But a high school senior doing a college interview is a completely different matter. Wear something presentable, but I see no reason to wear a suit or even a tie.

D had her Rice interview last fall @ a law firm. Interview was @ 4:30, school was out @ 4. Interviewer told her to come in whatever she wore to school. Interview went very well. She's now a Rice student!

(BTW, D is most definitely a jeans & tshirt kind of girl.)

When I went for my interview at a midtown manhattan law firm, I went in a suit. Needless to say, I got the job. Probably half the reason was because I dressed so nicely. Same goes for Ibankers...a close friend of mine here recently got an internship with JP Morgan and went in a suit.

I have told my girls that when they interview dress appropriately, especially if it is in an office, because you never know who you might meet

Someday, you may be interviewing for a job with that person, and if you show up looking like, eh, just another day at school, it may not hurt you, but it might make you forgetable to someone you might happen to meet

If my D was at school and then going to an interview, she would wear something to school appropriate for later on

EVERY girl should own a pair of simple black slacks, even dockers- wear those with a nice sweater and you are set
