Interview at high school

My Princeton interviewer insisted, not explicitly, but implicitly, that our interview be held at my high school. Is this normal in any way, and what procedures should I take to secure a room? Is there a certain room appropriate to hold the interview in? I was thinking either the library or a conference/meeting room off of the library, but I'm not sure. They are the nicest rooms I can think of, but the interview is scheduled at 4:30, so them being open might be a concern. I could ask to ensure one is open, and the interview is tomorrow, so I would love answers quickly.

Can no one answer this?

well my cornell interviewer works at a high school, and we had the interview there.
I dont see how this is weird…

personally…i liked the explicitly, but implicitly part. That was a nice touch.

He doesn’t work at the high school, and it is at 4:30, which means many rooms will not be open. Where did you hold your interview?

It really makes no difference which room it’s in, as long as it’s empty. It could be a classroom, a chemistry lab, or the cafeteria.

Any room is “appropriate”. You’re not entertaining heads of state; it’s a college interview.

Our school has a college room, and I’ve seen people talk to college reps in there. I think the whole college-interview-at-school thing is sorta weird, but hey, what do I know?

If it’s nice, you could do it outside…?

I think some colleges intentionally encourage the alumni to interview in familiar environments and the school is a suggestion. I have also read a few others who have done this, but many were during the school day. I’m sure you could get something set up with your counselor.

“Any room is “appropriate”. You’re not entertaining heads of state; it’s a college interview.”

^Ha.

Yeah, just pick any room that’s open, apart from maybe the janitor’s closet. Maybe you could ask your guidance counselor if he/she has any suggestions.

I did a Harvard interview at my school. My guidance counselor just opened up a room for me.

I did my princeton inteview in a random classroom. We just looked for an empty classroom and just picked a random one.
I’m sure any room will be fine, but if you want to reserve a conference room then by all means do so.

I talked to the counselor briefly and he told me the conference room in the office was open. We used that, and the interview went well. At least, I think it did.
