Interview attire

If I'm having an interview at Starbucks, how should I dress? How about if they come to my school for the interview? I see people mention khakis a lot, but I don't own a single pair. The only thing I own more formal than jeans is a pair of black dress pants, but I think that's too much.

Would it be ok if I wore dark wash or black slim/skinny jeans, a button-up shirt, decent shoes (not dress shoes but not sneakers either), maybe a sweater, and a nice coat?

Also, if the interviewer offers me a drink what should I do?

Interviews are generally regarded as white tie functions. You should wear a tuxedo or a ballroom gown, depending on gender and/or personal preference.

If the interviewer offers you a drink you should politely refuse or merely pretend to drink it. You should never accept drinks from strangers - you never know what kind of substances they could have placed into it.

Do you want to wake up one morning and have no memory of what happened to you the night before? I didn’t think so.

On a more serious or realistic note, do not wear jeans!! Even if its at starbucks, just wear pants or slacks but not jeans. The sweater, polo shirt, or something similar would be great. As long as your shoes work well with the rest of your clothes it will be fine.

If you get there before he does, I would suggest to buy your own drink. You can choose to accept his offer or not. It doesn’t make a difference but I usually buy my own.

If you can dress up, then why not. I’d wear a tie and such. I might even throw on a blazer. It shows you care.

Our base senses of style sound totally different OP - I almost never wear jeans, it sounds like they’re daily for you - so maybe my interview wear is more formal than yours. I just went for nice slacks and a nice blouse. Smart casual.
I don’t think black dress pants would be too much. If your skinny jeans are tight (most are fit that way) I would advise not wearing them. If they are appropriately tailored, go ahead. The shoes and shirt sound fine.

I wore jeans, it was no problem for me.

Just wondering, what college are you being interviewed for and at what location? I was interviewed at Starbucks in San Francisco for University of Rochester and the interviewer insisted I just come in casual attire, so I did. If your interviewer also suggested that then I recommend doing that but keep your jeans from being obscene, don’t wear too skinny jeans like a scene kid.

I wore a Polo Button Down over a Polo Track Jacket, Levi’s Jeans (not skinny but not baggy and definitely not hanging below my waist), a vintage Rolex, and Polo tennis shoes. All black and white with dark navy jeans. Just try and show that you can be tasteful while casual, if that is what your interviewer wants your dressing attire to be.

I’ve had two interviews at Starbucks (with a third one next week). I wore khakis and a nicer button down top. One of my interviewers came from work so he was in a suit but my other interviewer was in jeans herself. My advice: go buy khakis or a nice pair of navy or black pants. I feel like khakis or navy pants are dressy enough to look nice, yet it doesn’t look overdone if your interviewer comes in jeans (as mine did).

Don’t forget your frock coat, cummerbund, and essential cravat!

In all honestly, look clean and presentable, but not like a pretentious jerk who dresses up for an interview at Starbucks.

I wore what I wore to school, dark levi skinny jeans, blue plaid collard shirt and SBs. My interviewer for Yale wore jeans too, it was pretty informal, she even said she hates it when people get primmed up for an interview instead of coming in as their real selves.

I wore dark skinny jeans, mid-calf brown leather boots (not sneakers!), a nice purple shirt, and a fitted red leather jacket. I think it’s more important to look put together than fancy. So no midriff or cleavage and no jeans with holes (which was an accomplishment for me).

I wore dark skinny jeans, Ugg boots and an abercrombie polo shirt. Seriously.

I think DARK jeans are fine. Make sure they don’t have holes  and make sure your whole outfit is neat and unwrinkled. Tuck your shirt in, wear a belt, and be sure your hair is neatly groomed as well. :)

Do NOT accept a drink from an interviewer. You’re not legal and he/she knows it.

^But then again, what kind of Starbucks are you going to where you need ID for your drink? Maybe some kind of eggnog special?

I’d do dark jeans (no rips), and maybe an argyle sweater on a collar shirt on top
not too formal, but not too casual!
