Interview by phone?

I’ve heard a lot of talk about how interviews are not really all that important unless they are terrible or amazing or whatever. Well I got a call a couple days ago from an alum who lives a couple hours away who was asking if I wanted to set up a phone interview. I’m not a fan of long conversations on the phone in the first place, and I feel that having an interview over the phone would remove the important face-to-face aspect that an interview normally provides.

Should I bother doing this phone interview, or just pass on the opportunity? Thanks.

Personally, I would never pass on an opportunity for an interview. And if the alum really only lives 2 hours away, and if you have access to a car, why not suggest driving to see him/her? Or find a computer with a webcam and see if you can do a Skype interview.

I’ve done several interviews. They aren’t ideal, but I’ve still managed to answer the questions Brown asked.

Yeah I mean I was offered a phone interview with a Brown Alum. I was rejected so take this with a grain, but I find that any personal impact (even the slightest) that you can have on your application decision is essential. I mean it’s Brown, so use whatever you can to better your chances.

i had a phone interview for Brown a couple of weeks ago! i’m not a fan of phone interviews, either, but it really wasn’t bad at all. i think it’s good to take any opportunity to get in touch with the school, even if it doesn’t make a huge impact in the end.
