Okay, I thought I heard that the Brown interview was somewhat important, but my interviewer called and said to not dress formally at all and that it will be more of an information session than anything. However, it said it will be 45 minutes-1 hour. Is this normal?

Yes. I often wear jeans and tell the students I interview to dress casually.

There is disagreement on how important the interview is. As an alumni interviewer, I'd like to think it's important and I'm not wasting my time. Some people say it's worthless and has no impact on admissions.

If they were completely useless why would Brown do them in the first place?

I would guess that they use them for getting a sense of the applicant's character, as opposed to the their achievements...

But i'm no interviewer obviously I'm just guessing
