Interview deadline - am I done for?

Today's the deadline for scheduling the interview and I have none. My first EC had his calendar full, and MIT just reassigned me with another EC yesterday. I hear she's very busy (she's the Vice President of a big company) and I haven't been able to get in touch with her.

By the time I get another EC, it will be too late to schedule the interview. Is there some way I can get the deadline extended?

I'm from India, but I don't want the interview waived!

Try anyway.

This deadline is there to protect the EC’s. Without it we would have heaps of candidates calling us for the first time on Christmas Eve, demanding an interview. As it is, with the deadline, I still get candidates contacting us for the first time at Christmas demanding an interview. Actually the latest that a candidate has contacted me was one applicant who wrote to me for the first time on the twentieth of February a few years back asking for an interview.

Given that the deadline is there for us, in my region, we try very, very hard indeed to interview everyone who has contacted us by 23:59 today, even if the interview is not actually scheduled. In your case, with you having an EC that you contacted in good time and been reassigned late by the admissions office, if I was your new EC, I would look very favourably on anyone contacting me late for that reason. And I would likely accept an interview request even if came to me for the first time after the 10th.

Obviously there are some 2500 of us around the globe, your mileage will vary. But do not presume that you are automatically doomed.

Plus, you tried. If this doesn’t work out, MIT will waive your interview, and it won’t impact your decision. (In fact, it looks good that you tried so hard.)

canhazphysics-How long did it take MIT to reassign you another interviewer? I actually e-mailed my EC a few days ago however he was also too busy to schedule an interview. So I contacted MIT at interview@mit.edu to get another interviewer assigned on Friday morning but haven’t gotten a reply or a new interviewer assigned to me on MyMIT. Should I wait a little longer? Or should I just e-mail the MIT admissions office again on Monday?

Thanks Mikalye. I contacted another EC and he was very understanding and sounds incredibly interesting. I’m thrilled!

Lalaland - The first reassignment was done in about 3-4 days, but I sent them another mail on the 8th and they still haven’t gotten back to me. I just went ahead and contacted another interviewer on my own. Perhaps you can ask someone you know in your area for his/her EC details. They’re really nice people and won’t mind granting you an interview.
