What is usually the latest day you can send your initial application to be guaranteed/have a high chance of getting an interview? This is for both early and regular decision.

From what I've experienced with the schools I applied to that I would assume that as long as I handed in an application by the deadline that I was guaranteed an interview [granted these were crazy schools like: Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Tufts and Yale]. Harvey Mudd I had to schedule pretty early in the game, especially since I'm on the east coase, the MIT deadline was sometime in early December for RD so I missed that and for TCNJ since it's a popular rolling admissions college here in the garden state, interviews are first come first serve and though they run into January/February they had all been taken by mid-November at the latest, so, look into each school to see if you have to contact them or if they're going to contact you.

I'm mainly looking into these RD schools: Brown, UChicago, Cooper Union, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, NYU, UPenn.

Can anyone clarify for these schools? The interview deadlines werent stated in the viewbooks or apps

Well I know that for Harvard and Dartmouth that you are contacted to have the interview [at least I was], so generally don't be too concerned, plus I think Harvard actually requires interviews with few exceptions. For Cornell if you're doing Hotel Administration, Insustrial and Labor Relations [which can be conducted over a phone if need be] or Architecture, Art, and Housing you you must have an interview in all other programs, and for the other four schools interviews are neither required nor offered. I checked with a friend who goes to Brown and apparently interviews are recommended and upon obtaining your full interview will a local alumni contact you for one if you so choose to take up on it. I checked with another friend who applied to both UChicago and UPenn, and for UChicago he told me you can either do an on-campus interview and give notice two weeks prior to your visit, or you can request an alumni interview though this you should apparently get on early b/c he told me he didn't bother since he found out that the last day is early January, though you can apparently do one right now if you wanted to. He also said for UPenn that they should contact you. I really don't see how NYU could really conduct interviews but I guess it's possible, and as to cooper union I really don't know anything abou it, so....

Thanks for all the help! Some colleges suggest that you send in th initial app right away so that you "reserve yourself an interview" but i guess it doesnt matter if my initial app goes in late december...

Hmmm, sounds like me, though I at least got my apps in by the 20th of December :D
