When is the latest possible date to be contacted for an interview if I applied early action? There is a fairly vast alumni network in my area, and relatively few people in my town applying to Yale, so I'm surprised that I haven't been contacted yet.

Interview reports must be in to the admissions office by December 1.

Okay thank you. I’m really hoping I get one. Ahhh.

Doesn’t matter. If you don’t get one, it won’t hurt you, and if you do, it’s unlikely to help you. I suspect interviews are mostly for PR and recruitment – keeps alums involved and the interviewer can help generate more enthusiasm for Yale in hopes of increasing yield. An interview MAY affect your chances (not in a good way) if you come across as insufferable, but that would be rare. Maybe I’m too cynical, but I think overall it has very little weight.

CIEE mostly has it right, according to my experience as a 20+ year interviewer/recruiter

I know that it’s unlikely to affect the outcome in the end, however, I think I can do very well in an interview; and when my admissions decision comes, I just want to be able to say that I did everything I could - whether I get denied or accepted.

Meh… four years ago I was never contacted for an interview (and I live in the larger Los Angeles area) and I got in early action just fine.

Having talked to people on both sides of the table, interviews don’t really affect admissions too much. It’s actually a better chance for you to find more about the school than anything else.
