So I e-mailed my EC before the 12/10 deadline, and she just replied to me today. She says she'll be out of town until January, so she wouldn't be able to conduct it until after then. She also said if that was too long a wait, I could contact another EC. My question is, what is the deadline for their interview report? If I stay with her and schedule it for January, will it be okay?

Um, when I applied to MIT, I totally forgot about scheduling an interview and I ended up contacting my EA 2 days after the interview deadline expired in mid-December.

She was really gracious about it though, and said that she will schedule my interview for 1.5 weeks later since she'll be gone on a trip.

I ended up having my interview on December 26 and nothing negative happened. My interview report was processed without any blips.

If you are worried about it, I guess you can contact interviews@mit.edu/email and ask them whether they will be okay with you waiting till January to have the interview or whether they would need to reassign another EC to you.

My guess is that they'll probably say January is fine - but I think it's good to double check! :)

Good luck!

Mikalye, who's an EC, answered a similar question in the master interview thread:

Indeed, this is the first year that there was not a deadline for the interview to be conducted (for example, last year it was a 1 December date to schedule it and a 15 December date to hold the interview). The interview reports must be received by the Admissions office from the EC's by 6 January in order to be considered. It usually takes me 3-4 hours to write up an interview report so while it is theoretically possible to do it the first week of January, in practice every EC I know schedules all their last interviews to finish in December.

If there are real extenuating circumstances, and reasons why the interview cannot be held until February, then you can talk to the admissions office, but I would not be all that hopeful. The interview report needs to be in the folder for the start of reading, and that starts fairly early in January. If you are an international applicant (whose folders are read after the domestic pool) then there MIGHT, just MIGHT, be a little bit more give. However you should plan on a December interview.
I would contact the EC office and explain your circumstances. They will either assign you a new EC or permit the late interview.

reverie,
I'm in the exact same position. I contacted her before the deadline, she got back to me and said she couldn't do it until late December but I could contact another EC if I wanted it before. Contacted other EC, and didn't get a response. So I'm getting a little nervous as well...

Well, I took their advice and e-mailed interview@mit.edu ..but no response yet so I haven't even contacted another EC x____x But I'm guessing since we let them know of our circumstances we can't really be at fault, right? D:

The EC office will almost certainly be understanding.

Absolutely, Also, keep in mind that the deadline is 6 January. For RD applicants, even if your interview report was received in mid October it is not going to be looked at until January. Therefore, there is no problem or penalty for holding the interview the first week of January even. As long as the EC can write the report in time, no problems.

Ahhh. Okay, so I got my response from interview@mit.edu sometime last week which said they reassigned me an EC, which is fine so I go and check. HOWEVER, the new ECs contact information is all outdated. The e-mail is invalid; when I called, the people said he no longer lived there. I e-mailed them back again right away, and still have not heard a response but the end of December is drawing close ..Will my interview be waived in this case?

hello...hey mollie and others -

if my interview report was filed at around 11/15, would it have been "read" along with the EA files if my application was EA?

I would assume so, yes. That's well within the reading period.

reverie, I would contact the EC office again and explain that the contact information is not working.

Yeah, I've already sent 2 e-mails regarding the latest issue, 1 week apart between them, haven't heard a response on either of them :|

i emailed my EC on 7/12, emailed again, called n no response!
i called the healp desk n they saide he'll contact me but he still hasn't :S
i emailed MIT but no1 has replied to my mail. I'm getting so nervous about all this!!

Would not getting an interview give a negative effect on our applications or just not affect it at all? (Wheras I know a good interview can have its advantages).

So, still no response. Do you think I should just recontact my original EC? Even though MIT's response was that January was definitely too late and that I should contact another one, would this be held against me? :/ Argh, so frustrating. I have a tiny shot at MIT as it is, so one imperfection in the process will kill my chances ;~~;
