Hi,

I sent an email to my EC requesting an interview. I know it's late, but I decided to apply to MIT late after a bit of skepticism (the international acceptance rate is around 3.8%, so I needed a bit of encouragement to apply!).

Anyway, I understand that the interview deadline is the 10th of December. However, is this the actually interview deadline or the deadline for arranging an interview? How does MIT confirm that I've arranged for an interview, and when is the deadline to actually have the interview?

Thanks

It’s the deadline for arranging the interview. I believe that the EC’s will make note of if you met the deadline. I don’t think there’s an actual interview deadline, but I’d say have it ASAP to make sure MIT receives it.

How do I ensure that MIT is notified that I arranged my interview on time. I’ve only sent the email today, so he should receive it in the morning (of the 7th). Hopefully he’ll reply quickly, but is it worth calling if he doesn’t reply in 2 days (i.e call on the 9th)?

I realize how rushed this is and I apologized in the email, but hopefully things won’t turn out badly. With such a low acceptance rate I don’t want to do anything to hurt my application!

I worded that poorly- December 10th is the deadline for your first email/phone call/EC contact. By attempting to contact him/her, you have met the deadline. Sorry for the confusion!

Oh, ok. So I’ve met the deadline and technically don’t have anything to worry about at this point? I just wait for him to reply and try to contact him again if I don’t hear from him for a week?

Whew, that’s a relief!

I would still try to contact your EC again if he hasn’t responded by the 10th. This is a very busy time of year for ECs.

I believe the deadline for ECs to send their interview summary reports to MIT is in very early January, so most ECs will probably want to schedule all of their interviews before Christmas or so.

Ok, good to know because I’ve got an interview at Oxford on the 16th so I’ll need to work around that. Luckily I’m in an area where there are unlikely to be a huge number of people applying, but I’ll try to contact my EC by the 10th if he hasn’t responded.
