Interview Dilemma-how important are inteviews?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma: the deadline for requesting an interview for RD is tomorrow. Unfortunately, I didn't know that the common app has to be completely submitted before I can even request an interview. Right now, my common app isn't even close to being done, as I am still revising my essay (doing the Rice app is not an option because I already gave my teachers the common app letter of rec, and we're on winter break now so I can't contact them).

How important is an interview? Should I submit my app tomorrow knowing that my essay won't be that good? Or should I wait a couple of days and sumbit after the deadline and hope they still grant me an interview? Or should I not even worry about the interview and just submit my app when it is strongest?

Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.

You can switch the different forms (common app and rice)...
I turned in Part I via Rice app, then turned in the common app with supplement
They said it was fine.

I would suggest that you wait until you finish the whole app..coz the interview doesnt count for much (so ive been told)

In the rice University site it is mentioned that the interviews are optional but recommended, Since they have mentioned "recommended" I would certainly go for it - provided I have the time to go for one lol.

Whatever you do, do not sacrifice the quality of the rest of your app for the sake of an interview. The interview is probably only slightly more important than the box question.

Meh. The interview might have saved my ass last year. Or at least helped some. If you can do one, do one. It probably won't hurt your app. If you can't get to one, then its not critical.

Def. finish the app to the best of your ability...i had an interview a couple weeks ago and basically the person fills out a form about you and asks simple questions...i mean it will help you, of course, to have an interview, but its not as important as doing your best on the app, try to request one today anyways

not havoing one wont hurt... I didnt have one last year..
If you take it though... a good one can help, but a bad one can hurt baadly

i was told it can only help, not hurt.

I agree -- they told me at the info sessions and at on campus day that interviews can only help

well, if you make an ass of yourself at the interview... or sound like a dumbass... then it will hurt..

I think that they meant..taking one will help (normallly) but not taking one wont hurt
