In my interview yesterday the interviewer asked, "So are you almost finished with your application?" and I replied, "Yes, I just have to send it to my grandparents to check over it."

My grandparents only looked at one of my essays to look for any grammatical mistakes but I fear that the interviewer took it like I was sending all my essays to them so they could change it in major ways!

The consequences, the way I think of it, are these:

1) The interviewer forgets the remark completely and you are completely fine (95% chance)
2) The interviewer is a tad put off but is fine with it (less than 5%)

Basically, don’t worry. Would I recommend saying it again? No, but it’s not like (s)he will remember your name and hold it against you later!

Well the problem is that the person I was interviewing with was the same person that will be reading my application and making the ultimate decision, so she most likely will remember my name. It is at Colorado College so I believe the interview matters a lot so every little bit counts.

My suggestion is to not worry about it. It happened and there is nothing that can be done about it. It either has impacted your interview or not. No one can really answer your question except for the interviewer. Just make sure that the rest of your application is the best you can put together and move on.

Every college adcom speech I have heard so far stresses that you should “print out your app and have someone you trust check it over before you send it in”. So no problem.

Well, it is highly unlikely it hurt your chances. I am sure that most interviewers have heard just about everything, and they know students are usually nervous. However, if anything it just may help.

You said that you are having your Grandparents look over your app! That shows strong family ties, respect for your Grandparents and their oppinion, and your Grandparents involvement in thier Grandson’s life. Sometimes a rare thing these days. It is possible it actually made you stand out in a very good way. Don’t worry about it, I would not even considerate it a problem :-)

I’m with DVC Daisy. I think your comment shows a nice family connection which unfortunately can be harder and harder to find these days… I would say this actually helped you or will make no significant (negative) difference. Best of luck!
