I used to go on there all the time but I lost interest in clothing lol. I spent a couple thousand on clothes the past year or so and I don't feel like buying more.
Jeans and flip flops are fine. Going with clothes toed shoes or overly formal will probably be much worse than jeans and flip flops. I would at least go and buy a tee from them. As long as you're dressed somewhat in the AF style, your clothing shouldn't hurt or help too much and they'll probably pay attention to your looks/personality more.

definitely wear flip flops thats all they wear there... i wouldn't wear old navy, but something without an insignia on it or like any other visible brand name. i worked at american eagle, which is slightly less expensive or whatever and you didn't have to wear all their clothes as long as you werent promoting anything else

Wear something on the slightly formal side of the AF style. You've obviously been in the store before and have seen how the employees dress, attempt to mimic that but put a more formal twist onto it. I would go for basic flats - not flip flops - for the interview. It's always better to overdress than to underdress, even in AF. I would try to get a simple tank top from there, it's probably the cheapest thing there. Pair it with an unbuttoned cardigan. Or if you go into the store and really love a pair of jeans, pair them with a simple white button-up with a striped shirt under. Remember to smile and be enthusiastic! Good luck!

As another poster said, this interview is really just a formality. Definitely wear flip flops and jeans. That's a staple of the AF look. You should ask friends or go buy an AF shirt. Do not wear Hollister or Ruehl. Even though they are essentially the same company, you can't wear those clothes to work if the label is visible. I worked at Hollister last summer. Basically the same thing. The interview was a group interview and one of the other applicants was actually tripping on Vicodin during it. She got hired anyway. Also, you'll get a pretty nice discount, probably more on the new items. I know Hollister also had colors that you were supposed to wear (I think it was blue, green, grey, and white when I was there). So don't buy too much yet because they'll pressure you into buying what they want you to wear later.

Anyway, good luck and relax. You'll get hired for sure. It's definitely an experience but make the most of it.

im kinda confused...do they mostly only hire people who look like models?

No, they only hire people that are white...

that's not true. my friend got hired and he's indian.

he must be a pretty hot indian. =P

I'm only saying that because A&F has a history of discriminating minorities in employment and advertising.

I'm pretty sure the OP asked people not to turn this into an "I hate AF" session.

Who said I was promoting hate?

i think best bets are learning centers; you get paid big money [for hsers at least], next i would work at coldstone or something, it seems like an easy job.

Do NOT work in the food services industry. It is HELL.

I think the OP knows about all of A&F's problems, but she's going to take the job anyway, understandably, haha...probably most of you aren't looking for real employment (no, internships don't count) but it's hard for my friends who are college upperclassmen/college grads to get jobs, even at a clothing store or bookstore...so it must be even worse for HS students! When the economy's bad and you need extra cash, I hate to say it but you've got to take what you can get!

when you go to the interview i know for a fact that you have to do this(i work there too and my best friends manages)::

wear hardly any if not no make up..(cover up and a little mascara if you want)
wear natural hair down not straightened or curled
wear a plain white t-shirt or vest top dont worry if its not a&f
wear plain blue jeans
white trainers or plimsoles or flip flops

you have got to reflect the image in the store and when you go to the interview you have got to act bubbly

LOL since this thread is uber old and the interview has already passed... ehehe.
