Interview For All?

does brown have an interview for all their applicants? just wondering if i should be extra excited

ps. how was the interview? those who had one

No not everyone gets an interview..

akiiriah!! hi :-)

Hey fringey! =)

It's been a while!

Interviews usually depend on if there is an alum in the area who can schedule it. If not, don't sweat it but if you can, it's good to have one and have some questions answered as well as they getting to know you.

everyone gets an alumni interview if they request it

they have little to no bearing on admissions, unless they were to report you were a total crack pot.

because here's the deal: almost every applicant to brown is articulate, well spoken, interesting, and accomplished. almost everyone has a great interview. so how do they differentiate?

they don't.
they are to satiate a nervous applicant population and nothing more imho...

^^^^
The same argument can be made about the rest of the admissions process. Ultimately, the decision for most candidates hangs on rather arbitrary and subjective choices.

but the difference is that anything in your actual application is seen first hand by the adcom, not a third party. and i would wager they are better trained to pick out what they want, and less likely to go bonkers over everyone they see.

the arbitrary and subjective choices of interviewers probably don't matter. the ones of the adcom determine who gets in!

Wait, you have to request an interview? On the website it just said they would contact you once you submitted your application. They haven't contacted me yet so I was wondering....

Wait... I thought Brown didn't offer off-campus interviews. I've been contacted for a conversation with an alumnus about Brown, but he said it wasn't an interview. I don't think they're actually considered in the admissions process...? I could be wrong. The US News World Report book also says that off-campus interviews aren't offered for Brown...Hmm.

well this mom of a girl at my school is interviewing all the applicants from my school.

the interview is scheduled to last 15 minutes each...which sucks because 15 minutes is like nothing haha.

Getting an interview doesn't mean anything---I was contacted for my interview less than 24 hours after I submitted my appliaction because there are a lot of alumni in my area. I don't think it's considered a huge part of the appliacation process---my interviewer spent basically the entire time gushing about her experience and barely asked me a question about myself. Haha.

^ I think it's more of a resource for the applicant to get to know more about Brown. That's probably why she didn't ask you much about yourself.

9: I don't think you can request one. I didn't get one (my friend who lives in the same area did) and I emailed them. They basically gave me the templated answer of how it wont affect my chances. But i still worry. Bah.

I want an interview.... I live in LA, so hopefully that will work for me, rather than against me.

P.S. Miss you akiiriah! Haha and i miss the crazy post-wars on the Yale thread

I live out in nowheresville, South Dakota. Is it possible to get any kind of interview?

Brown's goal is to interview 100% of the applicants; I know that every year more than 90% are interviewed, and some of the ones not interviewed go to prep schools, where no interviewing occurs.

If you want an interview, it's OK to call admissions and say so. Something usually can be arranged. But don't call for another couple weeks.

LOL, I love how my interviewer calls me at 9:30pm today. :-P At first I thought it was a wrong number (i wasn't rude, don't worry ;) ), and then I realized that he was going to be my interviewer for Brown University. Sorta psyched, yet sorta nervous at the same time....It's my first Ivy-league interview!

Just be yourself. And have a few questions to ask the interviewer-things that you might really like to know about, It is your opportunity to have a one-to-one discussion with someone who has attended Brown and a good source of info for you. Don't be nervous.

My s also read on the website that Brown will contact you for an interview after they receive your application if there are alumni in your area. He still has not received a call, but a friend of his did and also had his interview. hmm...
