Does brown send brown alumni to specific students for an interview because they want to know more about those applicants??

i thought interviews were conducted randomly but i heard that brown sometimes specially asks an alumni to interview a specific student(s) to learn more about them before they make a final decision. true??

pretty much interviews don't matter. I asked the associate director of admissions and she said that they try to give everyone an interview, but if you don't get one don't worry because it doesn't really mean much. It can help a little I guess, but I don't think it can hurt not to have one.

I think the question was more along the lines of Does Brown give certain students to certain interviewers based on something which the two have in common. For example, if they want to know more about what this kid is doing in orchestra, maybe they would give him to a former music major, or something like that.

And now to answer the question, I really doubt they take the time to do that. They had like 19000 applicants this year.

What i sometimes wonder though, is why would colleges bother giving interviews to people who won't even make the first cut? Why waste the interviewer's time, and their time? Just a thought. But maybe I'm reading into things way too much and hoping for too much. Hahah.

How could they know who makes the first cut? They'd like have to evaluate the apps to know..
Plus, interviewing is all volunteer work, so the school doesn't really waste anything
