Interview for Yale SCEA

Hi, if I plan on applying for Yale SCEA, should I expect an alumni interview between the time I submit my application to the Dec. 15 decision day?

In my experience, if you live near alumni volunteer interviewers, you’ll may get contacted from the time you submit your stuff until about Mid-November.

If by some chance you don’t get contacted and get deferred, yale may still try to get someone to get with you to complete the interview.

All SCEA applicants are our top priority but sometimes our resources are thin. Good luck to you.

Thank you!

I didn’t get contacted yet. If I don’t get contacted at all, does that mean I’m automatically deferred?

^ NO. DO NOT PANIC. Many people don’t get interviews. It doesn’t mean anything for your admissions decision.

That’s what I read on the Yale website too. It’s just that when I read T26E4’s post it seemed as though if you’re a SCEA applicant and don’t get contacted for an interview, you’ll get deferred. It made sense since the interviews are supposed to be evaluative. :)

I also did not get contacted, which is a little strange because I live in an area with many alumni. Also, my sister did get contacted when she applied 6 years ago. Is this a bad sign for me?

NO it is not a bad sign. AdmissionsAddict and T26E4 have stressed this millions of times.
Not getting an interview does not mean you are a weak candidate and are hovering over to the reject pile just as getting an interview does not mean you are a strong one and are landing in the accept pile.
Just chill.

my question was not if this means that I am a “bad candidate,” but rather if Yale has not received some part of my application necessary to proceed with the interview and admissions process

sorry - I didn’t make that very clear

If you actually take the time out to read the Sticky Interview thread, or even the Yale College website, you would know that the admissions have nothing to do with the interviews which are assigned by your local ASC director, and depend on whether your area has enough alumni volunteers. Now, seeing as you are confident that this is true, have you stopped to think that there might also be many candidates from your area as well?

As for not receiving some part of your application, go check your Eli account.

Other than that, I would really recommend reading around this informative forum (especially the sticky threads) before posting questions that have already been answered. Not only will you get a good answer for your own question, you’ll also find out more reliable information about the application process.

Good luck.
