hi! I have 3 interviews for prep school in july, and I want to be prepared. Anyone have any tips?

Just be yourself. They want to get to know you and everything that you do. Be prepared for all of their questions and make sure you know all of your extracurricular activities.

I started this thread last year: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1237590-interview-faqs.html, but there have been many other threads covering interviews, so try searching. The three essential tips I would personally give, from my experience:

1) Be prepared to give a 2 minute-ish overview of your life. Not one interview I’ve been to hasn’t started with this.
2) TALK, even if you’re usually an introvert. That’s more likely to make you seem more passionate and articulate.
3) Prepare questions of your own for the AOs. In addition to getting your questions answered, several of my interviewers remarked that it seems “more prepared”, which can’t hurt your chances.

I see a lot of kids on tours before interviewers at the school where I teach. Some kids look totally terrified, and some look excited and confident. When we see terrified kids, we think <oh dear,="" boarding="" school="" is="" not="" a="" good="" idea="" for="" that="" kid.=""> Fake confidence if you have to, because this is your chance to show the school you belong.</oh>

I agree that you should search for old threads on this question, but will add one other bit of advice here…

Find at least two things about each school you visit that are unique to that school, and be sure to talk about and ask questions about those things. Schools like candidates who show that they have keen interest that is not generic to all boarding schools. Research the websites, research what kids wrote here.

good luck!

Just relax and be yourself and don’t think too hard about what you what to say beforehand. You don’t want to sound like you’re repeating a script. Also, be ready for anything. My interview at andover actually ended up being about an hour of me discussing favorite movies and music with my interviewer. (in the end I did get in and i’m pretty sure I have that interview to thank)

I can’t tell if you’re a girl or a boy.
If you’re a girl- wear an oxford, a skirt, nice flats, and maybe a suit jacket. Accessorise with a simple necklace. Make sure your hair is out of your face in a nice bun or ponytail. Don’t wear a cloying perfume. Wear simple makeup, maybe just foundation and powder.
If you’re a boy- wear an oxford, dress pants (khakis are okay), a suit jacket, and dress shoes. Make sure your hair is neat. No overly obvious cologne.
For both- Follow the school’s dress code if there is one.
BEST OF LUCK AT YOUR INTERVIEWS!

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WEAR JEANS! You don’t have to wear what I put above as those are just some simple guidelines, but don’t look like you’re going to hang out with friends. One of my friends wore jeggings, an Abercrombie shirt, a lace cami, and Ugg boots. She didn’t get in. Of course, it’s not all about the dress, but first impressions are very important.

While I agree with the general gist of HarvardRox’s post–that you should look neat and presentable, I wouldn’t go to that extreme. In terms of dress, I would just say to look neat and clean, and just formal enough to show respect to the interviewer. Other than that, I would say the most important part of the interview is to let the interviewer get the feeling that you would be a good addition to student life; One of my biggest mistakes in applying was acting too stiff and formal at the interviews–but hey, I thought that’s what they wanted!
