So im having a bunch of interviews with Andover, Exeter etc. this week and next week. What I need to know is what should I talk about with my interviewer? Should I come in with a strong knowledge of each school? Should I mention my grades or my SSAt to the interviewer? Can someone please explain to me how to make my interviews go well?
thanks in advance

Definitely prepare questions to ask them about the school. Not questions you think they want to hear, questions that you want to know the answer to. Definitely don’t prepare answers for them. Just be truthful, be polite/well-spoken, and most of all be yourself.

Ok, thanks for the quick response.

Any other comments/help from others is appreciated.

Yeah, just be yourself. Definitely be truthful, even if it reveals something that you would rather not like to mention. Like DEtrombone said, these guys have been analyzing kids for a long time and they’ll know if you’re lying. It could really hurt your chances. If you talk about a mistake, focus on your growth from there and how you’ve matured past that. Beyond that, just be polite and be articulate. Your interview should go fine, don’t worry. :D

Do not bring up your grades or SSAT scores. Remember, you are not only getting interviewed. It is your chance to ask the interviewer any questions you have about the school. A new study by Stanford has come out about how to engage people in an interview, try to mimic their movements after they do them. For example, if they put their hand on the table, you should do the same thing 10 seconds later.

but that’d b so awkward if they said like “why are you mimicing me…?”

That’s why you do it a little while later.

but i mean still it seems like they would notice

What questions do the interviewers ask you?

It really depends on which school. They’ll typically ask you questions just so that they can get an overall view of who you are, but sometimes they can be a bit abstract. I know this year at Choate, they had a couple of weird ones that I had to think twice about. There was stuff like “What would be the first thing that you would do if you were the President of the USA?” Just be quick on your feet. They don’t want to hurt you and they’re not out to get you. It’ll mostly be really typical questions though. “What are some of the things that have influenced you up to this point?” “Can you give me a brief history of your life?” “Where do your passions lie?”

I’m sure you’ll do fine, just don’t worry.
