I have an interview set up a week from today. Has anyone else had an interview at F&M? Do you have any pointers? How do they determine a fit for their school?

How did your interview go?

I think it went great! I was in there for over an hour. We talked about what We could make my custum major for a while. It went from American Studies to American Studies/ Africana Studies with a double major in anthropology. Hopefully i get in. I LOVE the campus.

F & M is more honest about the role that interest plays in their decisions than any school I know of. I was on campus with a student today for several hours. Right in their student overview sheet, they talk about how much how they encourage students to apply early decision if they are interested. If you need money, they will even tell you how much your award will be before you make a committment. Study what makes them different and articulate to their officers why this is a match for you.

They want their scores to go up. In their Feb 4th, 2007 newspaper they talk about how their goal is to have a 38% acceptance rate and have the average scores be over 1300. Sure, they have an SAT optional policy that is used by about 15% of matriculants, but that's because it helps them to take kids they want without having it impact their profile.

It's a great school that is definitely on the rise. By the way, they are up from 3700 applications a few years ago to 4700+ this year; they blew away their old record.

You impress them by having great stats, knowledge of what makes them different and a strong desire to want to go there that you clearly articulate. They are a real community, so any passion that you can demonstate will be greatly valued and will be perceived as strengthening their community.

admissionsrep,

Can you send us a link to their newspaper?

Thank you!

I 'd be interested in that link also since my daughter is interested in FM
