I know there is a nother thread regarding interviews, but I just wanted to ask everyone about it. Does getting an interview really mean absolutely nothing? It isn't any kind of indication of anything? Thanks

It means absolutely nothing more than that you live in an area where there are enough alumni such that one of them has time to interview you. Nothing more.

Thanks.....well that at least means there aren't as many people to compete with in my area.

No, it doesn't mean that. You could be in an area with tons of alums. Or, you could be in an area with tons of people to compete with and you just got lucky to be chosen.

I'm sad, I haven't been contacted. I guess there's no one around here. :(

No, it doesn't mean that necessarily.

Ok so what does it necessarily mean?

It doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Right.....

hahahah - that was fun to read

but for the record.. there are quite a few people applying to Columbia from Lahore..but only a few people got called for an interview..some more qualified than I was - didn't. I doubt its a random process. Either they interview those they are unsure about (and what to get to know more about) or they interview those that they are actually interested in. who knows... all ivy leagues are mysteries in their own regard.

sorry.. (and want* to get to know more about.......)

What do you mean "you doubt" it is a random process? There's no mystery. You just don't know. Your baseless speculation is completely incorrect.

we're all just speculating here and none of us know fully well about college admissions and the reasons people are admitted/rejected.

and as for Harvard..i am NOT just "speculating"..the interviewer himself said that certain names were recommended to him FROM Harvard itself.

No, YOU are speculating. YOU don't know fully well about Columbia. And we're talking about Columbia, not Harvard.

I know exactly what the admissions office does vis-a-vis interviews, and your speculation is incorrect.

columbia's the only school that didnt give me an interview. Everyone else in my school got one except for me. I hope my interviewer i jsut taking his/her time. If i dont get one i dont get one, oh well

you know "exactly" what the admissions office does..haha okay - if you insist. I'm not going to take part in an arguement you think you've already won. It's a waste of your time and mine. Sorry to everyone on the thread - Columbia2002 knows EXACTLY what he's talking about - I have no idea whatsoever :)

i didnt get an interview and theres someone closely connected with my high school whos an interviewer so most people at my school get one. and my counselor said "that's odd". now im SAAAAADDDDD!

There's nothing to be sad about. Assuming that most --but not all--applicants from your school get interviews, that means that they didn't have enough interviewers to interview everyone. It doesn't mean anything about you. Your counselor likely doesn't know what he/she's talking about.
