well i have my interview with washu tomorrow and feel kinda stupid....
ive only had one other interview. it was with pomona, my #1 choice, and lets just say the persons last words were "good luck".....it was pathetic....my clothes, the fact that it was after an over night visit.....oh my god, he asked me how i went about looking for schools to apply to so i told him i looked for small LAC and stuff like that, after the interview i realized what he was really asking was why i was applying to their school. i was dressed less formal than my overnight visit host. i wanted to shoot myself after the interview, i believe it ruined any chance i had at that school....

first of all relax...an interview cannot break your chance at any school...the point of the interview is just to help your application, and if you don't think it went well, then you'll just have to depend on your stats, like you will for all the other colleges without interviews...when in the interview, calm down, don't make it stressful...just try to have an adult conversation with him/her...if you're not quite sure, politely ask him/her if he/she could repeat the question, and take a second or two to make sure of what he's asking (in your mind), and then answer...just don't say "umm, uhhh" or anything...i think if you really like the school, you'll know enough about it to do really well in the interview...but most of all RELAX!

my interviewee told me that he is my advocate for the school. by this definition an advocate shouldn't report anything horrible--they know that it may not have been your best day. he told me, "it's really informal. you don't need to dress to impress. this is just your chance to tell me anything you want the university to know and for you to get a chance to know washu better." i didn't walk away feeling stellar, but now i know what to improve on. hope this encourages you... :)

thanks smile05. i had my interview today at 2pm. it went fairly well. the guy said he was going to give me a "very good recommendation" and said he felt i would fit in well at washu. but he also made sure to let me know that he was not on the admissions boad and that they made all the final decisions. overall, it was good.

and thanks for the encouragement, i wont worry so much anymore.

another thing... my interviewer told me that the interivew has an extremely little weight in the application process. glad to hear that you'll be getting "a very good recommendation"... awesome! nothing better than living and then learning...

wow, I didn't even realize I'm supposed to contact WashU for interviews until...now. and I just went to their site and it says that Alumni interviews usually happen between sept1- jan 15. well, there goes another opportunity.

aha. i've got a story. (not a particularly great one, though)
they were conducting interviews in my area. i knew they were optional and never expected to get a call from them.

it turned out to be a fiasco for me: that day i got home from school, i received a postcard in the mail saying i "would be contacted within 3-4 weeks about an optional interview." it was a monday and i was tired and i had lots of work to do so i didn't think about it too much. then, a couple of hours later, a call came. i got up from taking an involuntary nap, picked up the phone and was completely thrown off by the offer of an interview (i didn't have time to think about it yet).

the alumna was impatient with me (i guess it was my bad reaction to the call =X) and in the end, out of nervousness, i declined her offer.
the next day, i realized my BIG mistake, so i called them and asked if i could get rescheduled for one. the man who answered asked me why i declined, i told him i was unprepared to receive the call and didn't have time to think it through and he said okay, he would tell them and they would call back to tell me the answer. he cautioned me that they may not be able to fit me in. (i think that would be unlikely as i see interviews are still going on.)

i never got a call back, and to me... i think i'm screwed for my chances of admission- it will certainly go on my record that i declined the offer. also was wondering for a while back there why they would not call back.
still, tried my best with the app.
long post full of run-ons, i know, haha!
& i guess we'll see what happens come april.. good luck, all!

im sorry that sucks..even though it looks bad they might still accept you! im sure if youre qualified this one incident wont call for a rejection.
i think they were doing a mass interview in my area too. they mailed a letter saying that they were holding optional interviews and all we had to do was RSVP by email. well..i never got around to doing it and the deadline has LONG since passed so i hope it doesnt look too bad either.
so i have a bad interview story too!! for my ED school i had to go to the medical center at night while it was raining and i had never been there before. the guy told me to turn once i got to the fountain. well they happened to turn off the lights for the fountain that night so i couldnt find it. i parked next to a waterfall far away thinking that was the "fountain" he mentioned. i was obviously lost and he had to walk a looonng way..in the rain..to come find me. sigh i didnt get in although i doubt it had much to do with it. :(
