interview.. important question!

Okay, so I'm setting my interviews up now, and I ended up not getting interviews for the schools I really want to go to (cornell, hopkins...) because they didn't send me an email and their website said that they're only informational, not evaluative. is that true? or are they just trying to trick us??? and apparently hopkins interviews end before december... what??

However, I did get interviews for slightly less "elite" schools (carnegie mellon, wellesley) because their websites said that interviews are really recommended... am I doing the right thing by getting interviews with schools that ask for them rather than the "top choice" schools? or am I total idiot?

i say be yourself at an interview. If they ask you about academics say all of your stuff and then go into something you really love. My MIT interviewer had fun chatting with me for 3 hours because he was a boxer and I loved martial arts. Starting talking about the physics behind "no-inch" punch and stuff. Then he asked me to think of 5 inventions off of the top of my head..... that was tough.

Basically, make them enjoy talking to you. Crack a joke every once in a while and if you can try to find common ground.
