Interview not offered??

Hi,

So I know that not everyone gets offered an interview etc. - and that it depends on the interviewers in your area and all that.

But I'm a little worried. My friend (who has also applied) received interview offers from both Princeton and Yale, and I've not got either email yet.

Does this mean that my application is possibly lower down already?

Do they tend to want interviews from the stronger candidates?

Sorry if I'm being paranoid, but any information would help!

Thank you!

The interview process isn’t connected to the likelihood of admission. There are a few possibilities here. It could be that whoever is scheduled to interview you just has not made the contact yet. It could also be that there are too many people in your area to interview everyone and the person scheduling the interviews (not connected to admissions and with no access to your full file) have randomly selected some to interview. And finally it could be that an invitation to an interview is hiding in your junk e-mail folder (double check there just to be sure). In any case it’s really no indicator of where you are in the pecking order.

Don’t worry about asking these kinds of questions. IMO that is what this forum is here for. Most of those who have been through it totally understand the hyper-questioning that goes with the whole process and those who take the time to respond really do want to help where we can.

Cantiger, thank you so much!

Seriously, you gave me more than one possible reason why and were practical but reassuring. That was truly helpful, not to mention kinder than the “No. You’ve been rejected” trolling I was kind of expecting. Anyway. Sorry for the mushing but your post surprised me so much (not that CC doesn’t normally have great posts, but there are the few outliers of course).

It is true though that when reading this over it feels like a classic case of paranoia meets internet.

But thanks very much anyway.

Muchos gracias

Just wait a little bit - my interviewer took a while to get in contact with me, but I came to understand that this was because of his age/medical conditions (80+) and other outside conditions.

You could always use the extra time to prep for your interview, right? :^)

My son just got emailed by his interviewer…the email says that the interview will be “3-400” minutes…

Um, 5-6.5 hours??? I hate to have my son ask if that’s a typo if they really spend hours and hours interviewing…

Safely assume typo. 30 - 40 minutes.

tcjmom, my interview with Princeton lasted only a little more than an hour, and I assume it just can’t last more than 1.5 hours. My interviewer informed me at first that his interviews usually take about 30-40 minutes, as well. So I’m sure It’s just a typo, don’t worry.

I am an alumni interviewer for a different Univ and for us we can log into a website and then we are presented a list of possible interviewees listed in order of how far away they are from me and what major they are interested in . Based on how much time I have, I select those nearest to me and schedule interviews. I know nothing else about them. So it could be a matter of how many alumni interviewers are in your area and how many other applicants in the area want interviews.

@KatherynP, one of my interviews took something of a 2.5 hours we just kept on talking haha, but indeed normally it’s like 40-60 minutes :)
