Interview- NSM, Byerly... I'd like your opinion, please

Hello. Today I had my interview. It went pretty well. Casual, conversational, lasted for an hour. We talked about my school, classes, interests, etc.

I think I caught her attention with my music skills (I play cello, guittar, and piano) and with the fact that I make my own clothes. So, yeah, seems to have gone well.

Now, my big question is:

She said that she did not know of any applicants from my state and that I was the only one she has interviewed. Is it a good thing that I seem to be the only one from my state applying? I don't want to say "guarenteed admission," but would that catch the eyes of adcoms?

Unlikely that you are the only one from your state, unless your state is Transylvnia. That would catch their eye...

That's what they said...

'She said that she did not know of any applicants from my state and that I was the only one she has interviewed.'

Which state are you from? If its a larger state than maybe you're the only one from your particular area--and that might explain why your alumni interviewer only interviewed you and knew of only you.

I'm from Georgia. It's about 9 million people. However, we don't have a grand education system that sends off several Ivy Leaguers like northeastern states. Also, the ONLY alumni association is in Atlanta so if they had any from the state (north, central, or south GA) they would be sent up here.

Anywho, I shall be gone for the weekend. Just leave comments, y'all!

Hmm.... I thought the only states that might happen with would be like the dakotas or wyoming.

hey running circles-- each state has more than one interviewer and it's possible that she doesn't have a breakdown list of applicants from what states.

There are not many people from Georgia here; one of my best friends here is from Atlanta. Although geographically you may stand out, if you do not stand out in any other way, you will not be accepted.

That's odd. I interviewed today in Alabama, and there were 13 other applicants from the Birmingham area alone.

What about Florida? Do many people apply EA from Florida like the Tampa bay area?

Ok, I KNOW that Florida has alot of applicants, apfreak. LOL

Now, I was really surprised with my state since it is in the top 10 in population (number 7, I believe). Then again, everyone here applies to Emory and state schools (because they get a HOPE scholarship for having a B average). That may be one reason why they don't have many kids going to Harvard. In fact, I recall my science teacher saying he didn't like the scholarship because a huge majority of kids stay in-state for school instead of going out of state, especially compared to other states.

Also, when I called the alum coordinator I said: "Hi, I was calling about my interviewer... I need her e-mail address," and she said "oh, is this Patrick? Let me get it for you..." So, yeah, that's another reason I'm thinking I may be a lonely applicant. Maybe the other applicants are waiting for RD?

Now, I think I stand out... I put down that I was in my own band, at my interview I caught her attention when I said that I play several instruments and that I make my own clothing, how I speak Spanish fluently and read/write Italian, etc. The interview lasted a good hour, and it was pretty casual/conversational. But, you never know... I'll just have to wait for December 15. Good luck to all of you, and wish me luck! :-D

Actually, I wouldn't be totally shocked if there was more than one applicant from the Transylvanian region in Romania.
