I just received a phone call from an alum; she's traveling right now (I think, I was too excited to think) and we're going to do a phone interview. Ahhh :D Any tips/ suggestions? Especially for a phone interview, I'm generally 'ok' with in person meetings.

If you are OK with meeting someone in person-you will be GREAT on the phone. The key is to "be yourself", and smile when you talk. That smile will translate over the phone in a positive manner. (I have been in sale 20+ years) Good Luck!

That's a great idea! Thanks! Never thought of that :)

You're not "auditioning," so you don't have to worry about anything more than just having a conversation with the guy and answering the questions you're asked.

They also say you're supposed to dress up for a phone interview, to get yourself into the right frame of mind. It may work for some, but I've done a couple phone interviews in my underwear and have done fine.

One other issue, this will also be an oppertunity to ask the Alumni Interviewer for any insights into my prospective college career. Are the interviewers selected on the basis of their knowledge of the entire school program? ... or is there a chance that a SEAS grad will interview a non-SEAS applicant?

SEAS and CC alums can each interview SEAS and CC applicants. It's up to the interviewer.

Most CC alums don't want to interview SEAS applicants because they don't know anything about engineering and don't want to meet with kids who want to talk about their Intel Science Fair projects. However, most SEAS alums do fine interviewing CC kids because they've taken most of the Core and plenty of liberal arts electives.

Thanks, you're right - it's the core that counts.
