Hi there. I'm a junior in high school right now, and I'm absolutely in love with St. John's, almost to the point where it could become unhealthy.

I've basically got three questions:

-How important is the interview/overnight? I live in California, and it's quite a long way to Maryland. I might be able to work out something, but how much does it help?

-How good is financial aid? I don't really know how a student's aid is determined. My family's pretty well off, but they've told me they could only afford about $10,000 a year.

-What's the school life like, really? I'm pretty nervous about fitting in there. IS it easy to make friends?

I just went to the overnight last Thurs - Saturday, and man I have to say that it was awesome. If you can go, definitely do. Compared to the lukewarm tours that some colleges give the overnight at St. John’s really gives you an insight into the school. I learned a lot about SJC from the students, especially about the social aspect (which certainly seemed to be alive and well despite the small population). Everyone there was REALLY nice. And I mean that. I went into the Cafe with some of the other prospies and we were talking and then out of the blue a guy came up to us and asked, “Are you guys prospies?” After our slightly wary affirmation he he plopped down and exclaimed, “Well, I’m going to be your best friend for the next five minutes.” The whole place really seemed great, and I hope that you can visit. Also, remember that there is a campus in Santa Fe which would be closer for you then Annapolis, and would probably grant you a similar experience.

As far as FA is concerned collegeboard states that 82% of need is met at Annapolis and 95% is met at Santa Fe (not quite sure why there’s a discrepancy). No merit aid is given. So, fill out your FAFSA and see what your EFC is and hopefully SJC can spit back enough money so that you can go. Also, your “need” is technically your EFC minus SJC’s cost of attendance. Although that can be met by loans too, so not all of it will be free money. Keep in mind that SJC gives out aid on a first come first served basis, so apply early (which is easy because of their rolling application. You can apply as early as the second half of Junior year).

As you might have guessed I’m not a student there but a junior in high school. Currently SJC is my first choice and I’ll be applying once I get my SATs back from the June test. I will hopefully be going with a sizable amount of aid.

Anyway, I hope that this answered your questions.

I’m a Junior at high school with SJC as my first choice. I just don’t know exactly how early I should apply. I want to visit the school this fall, my Senior year. I really am dying to get accepted and I need a significant amount of financial aid, so the earlier the better I suppose.
Also, lantzk, did you schedule an interview? Do you recomend it?

hey guys i’m an international and found out about st john’s a few weeks back and fell in love.
i love it ae it just seems so me.
we could possibly end up going in the same year 'm in the equivalent of junior year except i run on southern hemisphere semester times.
lantzk it would be great to hear about your times there as a prospie as there is no way i will ever be able to visit.
any way nice to talk to some possible future class mates
where else are you guys looking at for colleges by the way
