Interview problems..

I was recently contacted for an interview through email, and the guy told me a time he was available. I responded to his email and confirmed the time and place, and I also attached my pre-interview form. On the day of, my interviewer didn't show (I waited for half an hour). After calling his home phone, I was told (presumably by his wife) that he would contact me to reschedule. After a few days had gone past without notice, I emailed him again, and he told me that he never received confirmation of the interview (I'm positive that I sent the confirmation email though, as it is in my sent messages box).

I feel disenchanted by this whole process and don't think I would have a good interview with this person, simply because of negative preconceptions that both of us likely share. Should I forward my confirmation email to him to show that I did confirm? I feel perhaps I should try and contact the interview coordinator to be assigned to another interviewer. Or should I just go to this second interview time that he assigned me and take the fault?

Any advice?

Honestly, I’d just screenshot the sent confirmation email and sent it to him to show you sent it but there were obviously some technical problems, then apologize for any inconvenience and ask if there would be another time it would be convenient for him to meet with you. It’s probably not a big deal and even if your interview doesn’t go well, the total impact on your application will most likely be negligible.

I was thinking of doing something along those lines, but I thought it might come across as too nit-picky or obsessive. Maybe not? Hmm…thanks for your opinion!

I guess sending the screenshot would be a little bit overbearing, but just explain that you sent it and be sure you don’t sound accusatory.

I would advise against sending a screen shot…it probably would come off as accusatory. I’d just briefly explain the situation and focus on scheduling another interview with him. Try not to “take the fault” or assign any to him. It was a misunderstanding and you should act like it’s no big deal so you don’t start off on the wrong foot. JMO.

Btw, what is the pre-interview form?

Thanks! CC’s advice is great, as always.

The pre-interview form is likely specific to my region (and some others). It’s a one-page resume that we interviewees have to fill out prior to the interview. If you weren’t given specific instruction to fill one out, you don’t have to worry about it.

Thanks! Good luck with your interview. :)

If though he does imply that it was your fault during the interview, screen shot him…

there’s a pre-interview form?

^Not unless they give you one.
