I'm a junior, and I'll be talking a mini-college road trip this summer, to see some of the schools I'm interested in. I know that this is not the best time because the student body will be gone, etc, but it's the only time I can do it. So what should I expect? A tour is a given. Do I have to have an interview with an admissions officer too? Or if they find out that I visited their campus, and didn't have a tour, would that look suspicious or bad? Since I haven't applied yet, and don't even know my intended major, an interview seems a little early to me. Any suggestions? Please help! Thanks in advance.

From what I've experienced thru two kids is schools are all over the map on this stuff. Some require you schedule a tour, information session, etc. Some are perfectly happy for you to show up any time. Some have interviews for rising seniors and others only have alumni interviews (in your home town) and some have none at all.

It would be best, therefore, that you research each school you may be visiting to see what their policy is well before you arrive. And if there are interviews, it is not as if you are going in there to tell them of your future plans. Most college interviews are more or less a chat about what your EC's are and how the college might fit you as an individual. If you do have an interview, it is best to have done some homework on the school and come prepared with at least an original question or two. Certainly this can be about a certain department of study, but since you are clearly undecided (and probably will be during the summer) you can certainly ask how that might affect you. e.g. is it easy to change majors? What majors might require you to make a decision freshman year, if any.

Good luck to you! And most of all, finish this year as strong as you possibly can.

thanks so much for your help!! I'll do that. And yes, I'm working really hard this year.
