I was planning on wearing simple business pants and a blouse to my USC interview with admissions this weekend (they are coming to Portland) but even though the FAQ says business casual, I've heard of a lot of people dressing normally (aka sun dresses and sweaters and such). What do you guys think I should do? Does anyone have experience with this?

bump

Professional is always good, but as a guy, I always dress semi-professional/formal like opened top-button dress shirt with slacks and sperrys. Besides which, I often find it awkward when the actual interviewer is wearing a t-shirt and pair of jeans when you are wearing a full out business attire.

Your name can’t actually be Mudbone…

Sorry that this is so off-topic. I’ve just never seen someone who is allegedly a girl name herself Mudbone…

hahaha no my name isn’t mudbone… its a nickname haha long story

It’s better to wear the semi-professional over the casual any day. It shows that you’re serious about the interview. Although, it can be awkward when you’re a little overdressed (oops I’d know) but what you described seems perfect!

I had an interview at a top liberal arts college in Pennsylvania and I wore a sweater, scarf, khakis, and riding-style leather boots. (I am a female). I felt that I had dressed appropriately. A guy was there, also for an interview, and he was wearing a navy quarter-zip jacket with a button-up underneath, khakis, and Sperry-style shoes. I felt that he also looked appropriate for the occasion. My interviewer (female) was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, a flowy maxi skirt, and a very long statement necklace.
I have another interview on Saturday with a similar-caliber college and I plan on wearing a wool patterned sweater (a simple pattern), khakis or gray pants, and riding boots.
