Interview question(this is not a common question asked many times)

Hi. I just got contacted for a phone interview tomorrow and the interviewer told me to email him my essay. Also he asked me to read it on the phone tomorrow. After hearing that I am kind of nervous. Do any of you interviewers do this or is this a request from the admissions committee?

That just sounds bizarre.

I don't think I'd be too nervous though -- I mean reading your essay is a lot easier than answering tough questions. He just sounds like some kind of nut. Or maybe he's dyslexic.

dude, they emailed me saying that I should probably go to General Studies. They'll forward it for me and I have to tell them if I want that or the College. Geez. I really have to write more essays to them and send more supplemental stuff I guess.

that's weird, why does he want you to read it over the phone when you're already emailing him a copy

That's a really wierd one. Are you sure you understood him correctly?

Prideandpride, who specifically email you with this question? Are you a senior in high school? If you are, I don't think you qualify for General Studies.

ok this is the exact way things went. On the phone, he told me that he wanted me to read my essay to him on the phone. So i told him that i would email it to him. He said ok but still said that i should read it tomorrow. Idk. i'll find out tomorrow, but still baffled.

best of luck!

I think I was right -- he's dyslexic.

wow.... that's pretty funny. Practice choking up on the right parts~!

"excuse me ::sniffles:: this part is particularly difficult for me... (wail loudly and emphatically in background) "

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm dying to know how the interview went..........

ok i'll tell u guys about how it went. It was a great interview overall. I told him about everything starting from my interest in entropy to my desire to reunify korea. An hour and 30 minutes total interview. During it, i asked him if he wanted me to read it, and he said we'll see and i guess we ran out of time for me to read it b/c he was like saying that we don't have enough time when i was talking about the variables in Eastern European history and how they unified and divided the regions. I think he really liked me. He requested me to send my articles to the regional director and said that he talked to the regional director and clarified some misunderstandings that they had. He said my essays were really candid and that he liked it. At the end he asked me to write a 200 word self-recommendation by that afternoon. (interview started in 10Am and ended at 11:45 AM sth like that). Overall just great.

This is bad. The deadline for submitting reports is tonight. That means he was too lazy to write a report and had you write your own report. Him pasting in your report isn't going to help you.

no he said he was gonna read my report and only type the stuff that he and i found to be my strong points. He said he wanted sth by that afternoon and that he would write it that night and in the morning after that . He said he would be out of the country right now.

A ghost-written letter of recommendation is never a good thing. Someone who thinks you're great is always going to do a better job making your case than you could do yourself.

while i apprecaite ur advice, i really don't think he's just gonna blindly send my rec. i guess what u said is a possibility but i guess no one knows until the decision comes out.

It is good that you had a good interview. "This is bad" doesn't mean that it will hurt your chances. I'm just saying that it isn't going to help you as much as you're thinking that it will help. The interview doesn't count for that much, and a partially ghost-written interview report isn't going to really do much for you.

Acinva, I did qualify but I declined.

i've had interviews where the interviewer just asked me to email him anything about myself that i didn't have an opportunity to fit into my application. he made it pretty clear that he was there to help get more information about me to the college. "self-evaluation" sounds weird but he might just get some more interesting facts about you out of it.
