DD has been contacted for, or already had, an interview with MIT, Princeton, Cornell, Brown, and Carnegie Mellon, but has not heard from Penn.

Should she follow up with them?

No. Actually it’s still very early in the cycle.

This is our first child, so I do not really know how it works. Should we just wait for another month or so?

Penn’s official twitter account send out a tweet a few days ago saying they’ve begun interview invitations, so I’m sure you’re daughter’s will come very soon!

Thanks!

I don’t have a twitter account. I guess I should get one if I am going to stay up to date.

Really??? Geez - can’t be satisfied & thankful for the amazing interviews you DD has had so far. Parents like you are so incredibly annoying - like CC version of a name dropper. Your daughter is obviously brilliant and didn’t hurt having a tiger parent in the wings - My guess is that while you pushed in doors and her through you may’ve forgotten an invaluable life lesson along the way …" gratitude " -
By the way yes, interview invites out via EMAIL too. (Twitter not necc).

CCon66 if you read that much into everything everyone says, you are going to have a stressful life. Maybe the point was that lots of other similar schools are further ahead in their interview scheduling process.

Ccon66,

I do not really understand what you mean, or the life lesson you are talking about.

Daddio3’s point is correct. Name dropping is not my objective. I am trying to say that she has heard from Penn’s peers. I don’t know the process, and I thought that perhaps she may have been omitted by accident.

I am not sure why you would think it is bragging? Aren’t most applicants interviewed at these schools? I did not think it was unusual.

You don’t need to follow up with Penn about an interview. You might want to check the junk mail filters for the email account that she used on her application. More than once I’ve had my email to an applicant filtered out. It happens less often now that I use a gmail account, but it does still happen. In fact, it happened just last week. Most interviewers will email twice and call once before closing out a file (and indicating that there was no response) but I don’t know that ALL interviewers do that.

It’s relatively early in the interview cycle so it could be that your DD was not assigned to an alumni interviewer yet. While Penn does have a goal of offering every applicant an interview (either in person or via Skype) that’s not the reality yet. It also depends on where you live; some areas have better coverage than other areas. The interview reports are not due back to Penn until late February, so there is still lots of time.

Good luck to your daughter!

lol @ccon66, let’s not go around accusing people of being ungrateful, shall we? :]
