Interview question?

My interviewer said, "the interview is casual."

what exactly does this mean in terms of dress code???

just look tidy, and be yourself-- wear what makes you feel comfortable, whether its jeans and a sweater, a casual skirt... whatever. I wore a casual tunic dress and flats to my Princeton interview, and I felt appropriately dressed.

i would have no issue wearing jeans to an interview, but i've also heard some people have been told not to. maybe try to avoid jeans to be safe? think "business casual".

thanks guys!

but has anyone actually worn jeans to an interview?

I have. Then I got deferred.

You did not get deferred because you wore jeans to your interview. But all the same, I would wear something nicer - khakis and a sweater maybe?

I wore jeans to my interview. They weren't dirty or anything and I wore them with a collared shirt. My interviewer was wearing jeans too, he didn't seem annoyed by it or anything.

I would suggest jeans only if you feel wearing nicer pants would make you feel less comfortable and weaken your performance in the interview. I personally felt fine in jeans and it matched my shirt/coat just fine. It's just a personal choice. However, since your interviewer said casual, I would say clean jeans are perfectly fine, don't go any farther than khaki pants.

Anyway, overdressing is definitely better than underdressing.
