<p>It depends. Some schools (most notably top-tier LACs) are very conscious of their yield rate and tend to reject highly qualified applicants who would be less likely to enroll at the institution. Some have the question just for marketing or statistical purposes. If I may ask, what colleges are you looking at?</p>
