Interview Question

I got an invitation to interview with Beloit (they’re coming to my state). I’m a Junior, so I was a bit surprised, but I called them and they said it was fine to interview anyways.

Anyways, my question is, I got a confirmation email that said that parents were welcome to come to the interview. This is my first interview, so I’m not really sure. Should I go alone? My dad has to drive me, so he’ll be there anyways, but I don’t know if it would be good practice to be alone+ maybe it looks better alone? do beloit interviews count for admission or are they just evaluative?

and totally off topic question— to people at beloit now, what made you choose it+and has it lived up to your expectation (and in what ways!)

Beloit interviews are very relaxed, mine was a lot of fun. It doesn’t matter whether your parent is there or not, either way is fine. Mainly they are to answer questions you have about Beloit. They really don’t matter much at all for admission, besides the fact that it shows you’re interested in the school.

I chose Beloit because of its intellectual “learning for learnings sake” environment, the students (friendliest, most interesting and most accepting out of the 6+ colleges I visited) and its very close student/faculty interaction. So far I have not been disappointed, the education has been amazing, the professors are great, I have a large group of great friends. And I do talk about class outside of class a lot, just for fun with my friends, which is something a lot of people say never happens. There is never a dull moment, I work hard, I have fun. Only complaint is the food is repetitive and blah, but it seems almost trivial compared to the great experiences I am having.

Oh thank you so much for your quick reply!

Is there a lot of drinking? and is there stuff to do that does not involve drinking?

and what were the other 6 colleges you visited?

oh and also, (sorry can’t edit my post), do you know anything about Jewish life at Beloit? How strong/active is it?

whisperofrain, my daughter is a student at Beloit, and in answer to your question: 1) Yes, there is a lot of drinking; and 2) Yes, there is stuff to do that does not involve drinking. Drinkers and non-drinkers socialize together and there is a live-and-let-live philosophy—the kids don’t put pressure on each other either way. You’ll find a little more about the social life on this thread:

I don’t know much about Jewish life, except what I’ve seen on the Beloit website:
