Interview questions (again)

I'm interviewing a top D1 rowing coach tomorrow for the blog. If any prospective rowers have questions they'd like me to ask - just let me know.

Some questions I have already,

 1. NCAA allows 20 womens rowing scholarships, do you allocate the full 20? Are partials the norm? How many do you have generally have available in a given year? Are they all for open weight?

For an athlete that may not qualify for a scholarship, are you able to give some support through admissions?

Rowing isn’t a common sport at the HS level, do you recruit athletic kids from other sports? What sort of qualities are you looking for in those kids? For an open weight girl who has never touched an oar, what kind of erg times tell you she has potential?

How much of a drop in erg times can you expect to see once he kids learns how to row?

What sort of attrition rate do you see over the course of a year? How about from freshman to senior year?

Is there s single part about rowing that is the hardest for freshmen to adapt to?

Erg times seem to have become markedly faster in the past few years. Where do you see the benchmarks for scholarship athletes … 100%, 70% 40% etc in offering scholly money.

Is erg time the single barometer in measuring a college rower? The fastest 8 erg times in the 1v boat?

What is your philosophy about weight in the boat? Open weight girls don’t have weight limits, but is there a benefit to lighter rowers with good erg times versus heavier rowers with better erg times.

Great. thank you
