Interview Questions

Can someone explain how to get an interview? Specifically...

1) Do I have to contact the school, or will the school's I apply to contact me?

2) When does this occur (after I submit the Common App, as soon as I express interest etc)?

3) Is there a difference between taking an on campus interview or just an interview in a local coffee shop?

Thanks!

Almost no school requires an interview. Many don’t even offer them. The few that do, they are the tiniest portion of your file.

1) Some schools offer on-campus interviews. You can sign up for them during the summer or early Fall. Otherwise, if a school has enough volunteer interviewing alumni in your area, one will contact you after you apply. Many are never contacted.

2) Jan or Feb for RD. Earlier if you apply EA or ED.

3) equally as un-weighty

Check the website of each school you are applying to. Each school has its own process. My son did campus interviews over the summer at some schools. Other schools have alumni interviews that don’t happen until your application has been received.
