If kid missed interview scheduling date, is it still worth applying? Thanks for your help!

Yes. One of my applicants contacted me for the first time for an early action interview well after the interview scheduling deadline last year. I could not get the interview completed in time for the early round, but the applicant was deferred, and then the interview report was considered when the student was considered in the regular round. The latest I have ever been contacted for an interview was 1 March (by which time most of the decisions have already been taken). Every year students are admitted without an interview (though clearly an interview is usually a very beneficial thing). Last year, of eligible applicants, MIT admitted 10.8% of those who had an interview (or who had their interview waived) but only 1% of those who had the possibility of an interview and yet chose not to interview.

That being said, this is an entirely theoretical question at this point, as the first deadline, for the early interview round is on October 20, and the regular round deadline is December 10 (<a href=“Deadlines & requirements | MIT Admissions”>http://mitadmissions.org/apply/freshman/dates). I should also note that that is the deadline to contact your interviewer and get your interview scheduled. It is not the deadline by which the interview needed to be conducted.

Thanks, I see the regular deadline now. Thanks for your in depth answer though. He should interview for sure.
