My D received a note this morning from Georgetown telling her the name of her interviewer and asking her to set up an appointment. What surprises me is that the application for EA isn't until Nov 1...and my kid is likely a month away from turning in anything (well, other than the $75 fee that she sent in to set up the account). Does Georgetown just literally set up interviews with everyone who turns in an app?

Yes, Georgetown has a “required” interview. They automatically match everyone who applies with an alumni in their area for an interview. There are some cases that they can’t find an alumni in your area, so then it obviously wouldn’t be required.

If she is interested in Gtown, have her schedule the interview. My D did all of her interviews before submitting an application to the school. She ended up getting into her top choice ED and didn’t even send in an application to the other schools she interviewed with – in those cases she wrote emails to the interviewers as a courtesy thanking them again for their time and letting them know why she would not be sending in an application.

That is normal. I did almost all my interviews before the application deadline (with the exception of Tufts, which was after). It is likely because you have previously suggested that you are interested in the school and are planning to apply, so they set you up with an interview. It is easier to have the report of the interview already done before they complete a final review of the applications

My D had an interview with Wesleyan long before the application deadline. It was from the recruiter who came to her school - she offered to interview her while she was in town. Ironically, my daughter got into Yale SCEA and never applied to Wesleyan, though it was her definite second choice.
