interview.... signs?

so i had an interview today on the phone and it went pretty well.

can i explain how it went and then you give a quick chances for this one school?

reason i'm asking: if i have a very good chance, then i'm not applying to NMH or w/e.

yes you may

ok :)

phone interview. very perky, funny conversation.
after she looked at my ssat's, she asked me about what courses i've taken and what i would have complete by the end of the school year.. and she seemed impressed and then.. she started to talk about how great the course offerings were (and i agreed) and then she started like, designing my schedule for next year! she was like, "okay, so we don't have a limit on how many AP's you can take, and since you've taken most basic requirements, you would take.." and then she was like, "ok for sports, i'm sure you could get on our crew team and learn how to play squash....so you'll sail/play squash/and row.. how great is that?" it was so great, she went on forever. and then she told me how my background and school system would be a plus ("i like this.. this is the most interesting educational background i've covered.. it's good, it's different..it reminds me of Oxford.. it's more like college than HS.. you'll like our school bcuz we have a lot of one-on-one..") and that living in california would be a plus ("we want more california girls..so you have geographical diversity working for you too").. and then she said how she would present me in a wonderful light to the committe. she said how junior year is very tough (much more than i expected.. but they will still admit about 15-20 kids.. lots of male athletes, but mentioned sr girls who came in as jr's who were succesull..but she said they overenrolled in male jr's last year, so they may want to compensate), but she said she would "work for me" during the meetings. also, she knew some of my family members and was all happy that we had a connection... it was a great interview. what are my chances for this specific school? (tabor: 65% SSAT, 30% acceptance rate for jr's..most kids are good students, generally well-rounded and happy, but very few overachievers.. me: 98% SSAT, 4.0 GPA, well-rounded EC's w/ lots of experience and good talent but no super amazing awards or anything.. cousin went there, another applying..i think they donate $$?? i don't know.)...... ? !

Living in California is working for you? I should have applied there. :D
I think that it sounds like you have a pretty good shot, though the eleventh grade thing again will get in the way. Still, your SSAT is well above their average, which is a definitely plus. Is NMH is Northfield Mount Herman? I would probably still apply there, unless you can just tell by the interview that you have a very good chance.

While a good interview gives you a better feel for the school, and most probably means you've made a good impression - there are so many factors that are taken into account when schools make actual offers. Depending on the school, and the number of openings versus applicants, they work to create a balanced demographic that meets their profile. I'd recommend going forward with the other schools on your list also, if that was your original plan.

Also, the interviewer is usually one member of a larger team that must go through all the strong applicants and make the decisions. Not all the recommendations from each interviewer will be accepted.

Good luck!

i mean actually the interview is really sth. ineffable...it can help you somehow if you did really well, but anyway do not be too excited even you think you made an impressive one, cuz schools valued more about other factors such as your academic works and essays. Why should AO treat highly of your 30 mins phone interview rather than your other shining qualities showed on your credentials?

p.s. i also did the phone interview, and the interviewer said I was "fascinating", but even today the school still has not received his interview report. I suppose interviewers talk with you in such kind and encouraging tone is just a matter of politeness, they want to give you a wonderful impression about the school by doing so.

That's great, Blair. So that was Tabor? I don't think you have to apply to NMH. You have a great change of getting into other top schools, and Tabor could be considered a high safety for you, I suppose.

apply anyway...if a school has 30% acceptance rate, they cannot admit every single qualified students...and that means you wont be sure

Do not take interview feedback seriously. Apply to the full range. Chances are good if you're applying to a school where your stats are at the top, but 11th grade is extremely hard at most schools and it comes down to things others than stats.

exactly.. i have the stats.. AND the interview went very well...also, she told me that my application could be late ("it's okay if it is, by the way, i'll overlook it.")..i'm not going to, but.. idk. that seems to me like she really wants my applciation. and she told me to send essays i was talking about..idkkk. and i didn't even tell her about any awards or anything.

i'm not applying to NHM. the school just.. i don't know. it seems like i wouldn't like the kids there... their crew coach sends me emails and stuff and she told me "with dedication, i can get the colleges interested in you in one season"... which is very cool. but i dont think i would be happy there.

Blair, most people applying have the stats.

No, this is for Tabor.

Wait, are you entering as a new junior?

That's hard at any school, especially because there are some SERIOUS size restrictions. I got lucky at my school because a lot of girls were expelled last year.
