I applied to Yale, so this partially pertains, but is more of a general question about the follow-up after interviews. Came here because so many knowledge people linger on this board :P

So, after an interview, I'm trying to figure out what to say in a thank you e-mail to my interviewer. I know, seems like I should have bigger things to worry about, but its really bothering me. It seems like anything I say either sounds too pushy or too unconfident/worried. Anyone have any recommendations as to what I should say in my thank you letter?

If you can’t really think of anything to say, just be general “Thank you so much for taking the time for interviewing me. It was so nice to meet you. Blablabla. Sincerely.” It might be a bit generic, but that could be better than sounding pushy or worried. I usually try to bring up something specific. One of my interviewers was really candid about his college experience, so I thanked him for that. And since I write letters, usually, I try to use my better penmanship.

Never mattered to me if someone thanked me or not. It doesn’t affect the write-up and that’s all I would ever contribute to the process. And as I’ve noted elsewhere, before the days of email I received a handwritten note from admissions telling me I’d sent in one of the best write-ups ever, how it painted such a vivid picture of the applicant … who then didn’t get in.
