In general, at what point in time should one sign up for and have interviews with colleges? I understand that many colleges have different policies as well (alumni vs on-campus, some don't even offer them, etc.). I'm looking at ivies, top LACs, etc., and my early is going to be one of the SCEAs. For people who are applying or have applied to similar schools in the past, when did you go through the interview process? Before or after you file your apps? I feel like I'm on top of all the other parts of my application, just I'm in the dark on this.

My son did all of his interviews save for 1 or 2 alumni meetings during the summer before Senior year.

Look at the websites for the schools you’re applying to. You’re correct - they all have different policies. Some permit you to interview before your app is submitted; others don’t. Look at the websites and figure out your timeline accordingly.

Make a chart with all the info, so you can keep track of what you need to do.

If you’re a senior, then any interviews you’ll have will be after you submit your apps. Your SCEA interview window, if it happens, will be after you submit your app and the 1st week of Dec.

For the rest, you can assume between Jan and March. And THEY CALL or email you to set it up. You sit and wait. Good luck

Great to know. Thanks!

Great to know? Perhaps . . . except that this is incorrect.

Yes, some schools require you to wait until after your app is submitted. Others don’t.

And, yes, some schools will contact you to set up an interview. But many won’t. And while you are “sitting and waiting,” the deadline for contacting admissions to request an interview will come and go . . . and you’ll be out of luck.

Check the websites of all the schools you’re applying to, and find out what their individual policies are. Do it now, before you miss out.

Hmmm…My son applied to 15 Northeast schools and not a one, of the schools that required or suggested interviews asked for the interview to be after the app was submitted. Lucky, cos he was captain of a fall sport and there was no way we were going to revisit schools for interviews.

dodgersmom: I just did some checking and you’re correct. Some colleges do offer Fall on-campus interviews. My bad

On campus and off-campus. :)
