Interview Tips.

I'm having an interview tomorrow for Andover and I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions or tips.

Also, I didn't pack anything really formal. Do you think khaki pants and a dress shirt will be okay? I also didn't bring any formal shoes. Will tennis shoes be okay?

Thanks

Those clothes should be fine. I wore khakis, a dress shirt, and a tie. Some kids wear suits, but that seems over the top.

The main thing you have to remember is to stay calm. Think about your answers before you say them, and have a couple of questions ready to ask the interviewer when you're done. This demonstrates knowledge and interest in the school. Be able to speak intelligently about your interests, hobbies, and schoolwork. Overall, try to seem happy and upbeat. The school wants to accept students that the faculty and students would get along with. After all, you would be living with these people for nine months of the year.

Best of luck and I'm sure you'll do fine!

jonathon why are you getting an interview for andover? are you gonna apply?

Tell us how it went!

It went really well. It was really more of a conversation than an interview. I think we had a lot in common.

Also, there's a lot of other summer session kids who are getting interviews. I know of at least five. Three are applying for tenth grade and two for eleventh.

That's great! Are you going to apply or are you going to wait until you know how much you like Greenhills first?

I think I'm going to just apply to Andover and St. Paul's. I don't have anything to lose.

How long was your Andover interview? (to everyone)

Mine lasted about 100 minutes.. it was supposed to last like 45 though. We just trailed off subject and talked about everything from golf to Buddhism to current civil wars.

I think mine was about 45 minutes. Don't really remember. The guy who interviewed me was really boring, though. Andover was by far my worst interview.

my andover interview lasted about an hour. or felt like it did anyway. longest interview was either exeter or lawrenceville..... i'm sure they were close to two hours.

I think about an hour or so. Don't hold me to that, though. Might have been longer.

SPS was my worst interview (it was on the phone). It lasted like 12 minutes. I woke up AFTER she called.. I kept her waiting.. gosh.. and then Taft.. the interviewer was a bit inexperienced.. she just read a list of questions and then said something like "i'd love to see you at my alma mater. my lunch break is over. good luck. bye." but the others were amazing (exeter and tabor were the best).

hey! i haven't posted in a while. good luck with the application process, jonathan!

ohh, & p.s., how is the summer session??? (:

what do they usually ask?

Why you want you come here, what you don't like about your current school, what your friends and teachers would say about you, what you and your family do together, etc.

Summer Session was over today!!!! I miss everyone so much. ughhh I hated today. Thank God for Facebook. :) I'll make a post about it later.
