Interview Topics?

Hi, I was recently contacted for an interview with an alumna from Yale and am looking for some extra input so I can make a list of talking points and questions I have, just as a reminder beforehand. I’ve done one interview before with Brandeis University and it went fairly well. There were only a few that threw me off a little, but I pulled through okay. I’m not expecting to get into Yale, but I figured I’d try anyways just in case.

For alumna interviews, do they read your application or at least your essays before hand and ask questions about those topics? For people with experience or who have been interviewed by Yale, what questions were unexpected or different from other interviews? Should I have a book in mind and if they do ask should I explain what it’s about or just why I enjoyed it?

Also, I tend to forget any questions I have until after an interview, which is why I have to make a list. So is there any good or interesting questions to ask them?

Thanks for any input, I appreciate it.

We (interviewers) only get your name, email/contact info, name of high school and what you indicated as your possible major(s). We do not have access to any other part of your app, including grades and test scores.

There is an existing pinned thread on the Yale pages that has good info on what to expect.

Ask questions that pertain to your interest in Yale that you cannot readily find on its website. The better interviews are ones that are flowing conversations vs a series of unconnected questions that were obviously canned.

Good luck and have fun.
